The lighthouse Island of Tankar
The picturesque Tankar, located about 15 kilometres off the coast of Kokkola, is a unique destination where historical seascapes and nature experiences are combined.
The lighthouse island of Tankar is located in the outer archipelago of Kokkola, and M/S Jenny transports passengers there from June to the end of September. Tankar is an excellent day trip destination for the whole family, but to truly experience the island’s atmosphere, it’s best to stay overnight. The island offers various accommodation options, from the old pilot station at Tankar Inn to the charming Lighthouse Keeper’s House and the Guest House at the harbour.
On the island, Café Tankar serves delicious salmon soup accompanied by homemade rolls, pies, and pastries. If you stay overnight, you can start your morning with a tasty breakfast on the café’s terrace.
Since 1889, Tankar Lighthouse has guided seafarers. The red and white lighthouse is nearly 30 metres high, and its light is one of the most powerful in Finland. You can visit the lighthouse on lighthouse days, which are held on Wednesdays and, during midsummer, also on Fridays.
