Pyynikki Observation Tower

The original wooden tower located on this site was built in 1888, but was severely damaged during the civil war of 1918. It was replaced in 1929 by a new tower of red granite built in the style of Classicism, and stands at 26m. Although 26m isn’t all that high, the tower is located on what is considered to be the highest ridge in the world from the glacial period, and offers commanding views of Tampere and the surrounding region. Pyynikki Observation Tower is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, there is an elevator to take you to the top, or you may climb the stairs. Access is 2€ for adults, and 50 cent for children.
