Lamminaho Farm
The Lamminaho farm is located by the former Niskakoski rapids, where the Oulujoki River begins its westward course from Lake Oulujärvi towards the sea. The hydroelectric power stations of Jylhämä and Nuojua have raised the waters of the river over 11 metres above its original level. The islands near Lamminaho and a mill site downstream from the farm are now submerged.
Lamminaho survived undivided within the same family for almost two centuries. In 1992 it was bequeathed and donated to the National Board of Antiquities to become state property. The buildings and their immediate surroundings are officially protected under the provisions of the Building Conservation Act. The National Board of Antiquities has given the renovated buildings and their immediate surroundings into the use of the municipality of Vaala for purposes related to the historic nature of the structures.
