Dance Theatre MD
Dance Theatre MD, the only existing unified dance theatre in Finland and the only professional dance theatre in Tampere and the Pirkanmaa region, was formed in 1997, as two Tampere-based dance companies, Mobita (1972) and Dansco (1988), were joined together. Funded by the Finnish government and the city of Tampere, MD has a permanent staff of ten people. MD produces ca. 80 shows on its home stage annually and 20 more on tour. In addition to helming the artistic coordination of MD, the dancers are frequent visitors in various theatrical and opera productions. In 2009, MD’s attendance total was 17 721.
MD works in cooperation with the Central Finland Regional Dance Center by playing host to numerous regional premieres and the annual Tampere Dance Current contemporary dance festival.
