Spend a winter day in Levi skiing, snowshoeing, winter biking, on a snowmobile safari, taking a husky or reindeer sled ride, or simply enjoying the snowy and enchanting nature of Fell Lapland. Levi is the perfect break from everyday life, with the atmosphere of real winter, where guests can enjoy an active holiday in Finland‘s largest and most popular year-round tourist centre.
Slopes and trails
Levi’s record-breaking winter ski season can start as early as October and lasts well into May. The wide range of slopes offers options for amateurs and beginners, as well as challenges for experienced veterans on the red and black slopes. Families with kids will be delighted to find Children’s Country and Leeviland for the little ones, as well as three snow parks for freestyle skiers and snowboarders of different levels. There are slopes in six different directions and guests can move freely from one slope to another during the day. Some of the routes pass through the forests offering protection from the wind and great off-piste experiences. Ski buses also shuttle conveniently between different slopes.
The front slopes leading to the centre of Levi are mainly red slopes, while the longer southern slopes are perfect for beginners and families with children. On the western slopes you will find alpine level challenges on the Levi Black slope as well as the gondola lift and the new Levi West chair lift. On the northeast slopes visitors will find the longest, red-rated slopes in the resort, and experience the dizzying excitement of the well-marked Free Ski area. The south-eastern slopes are a relaxed internship place for families and beginners, and is also where the main parking area is located.
There is 230 km of well maintained track network and 28 km of lighted trails in varying terrain for cross-country skiing, through the beautiful mountain landscape. Along the trails skiers and snowshoers will find cafes and lounges where they can linger, gather strength, enjoy snacks and the atmosphere by an open fire.
Winter biking, snowshoeing and hiking
Visitors can also explore the snowy fell terrain without skis, for example by winter biking or on snowshoes. The Levi region has ready-made, well-maintained and clearly marked snowshoeing, winter biking, and hiking trails. Of course, snowshoeing is also possible, whether exploring on your own or taking part in guided snowshoe trips with local experts. From the saddle of a Fatbike, the landscape changes lightly and quickly through the landscapes of Kätkätunturi, Immeljärvi and Levitunturi.
All the equipment needed for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, fat biking, or snowshoeing can be rented from the South Slope Zero Point and South Point equipment rentals, which serve from morning to night.
Huskies, reindeer and horses
Husky and reindeer safaris, along with farm visits, are among the highlights for families with kids vacationing in Levi, as they are for nature and animal lovers of all ages. Riding a husky sled, visitors experience the thrill of speed while enjoying the silence of winter fell nature and its magnificent scenery. Husky farms are always happy to entertain guests, allowing them to get to know these delightful dogs better. A reindeer sleigh ride is a gentler affair, journeys pass smoothly and everyday worries are forgotten. Reindeer rides and reindeer farm visits are also part of Levi’s winter activities, as horse treks.
