Tankavaara Gold Village

Tankavaara Gold Village was founded by gold prospectors in Lapland in 1970, and continues to preserve and teach the culture of gold prospecting and gold mining in Lapland. It is one of the more famous tourist attractions in Lapland with accommodation and restaurant services.

In Tankavaara’s gold themed restaurant you can enjoy the best local ingredients and a tranquil atmosphere. Whether you like coffee, fancy a quick lunch, or want to spend a relaxing evening with your group, the restaurant is the perfect place to relax. Our chef prepares authentic delicacies from Lapland, fresh fish from Inari Lake, organic wild boar from Kittilä, free-grown reindeer from Vuotso, fresh game from local hunters, as well as hand-picked berries and mushrooms from the local forests.

Even when there is snow and frost in the ground, not even a deep frost prevents our guests from trying their hand at gold panning. Experienced prospectors are there to guide you, outdoors in the summer and in winter indoors. Just be careful, because our guides will gladly infect new enthusiasts with their gold fever!

The Gold Village offers accommodation year around, either in our authentic gold prospectors’ cabins or our more modern Korundi apartments. The cabins have been built to reflect the simple living of the gold prospectors, while the Korundi apartments have more modern conveniences. Tankavaara Gold Village also has a camping area for caravans, cars, and tents

When winter and snow showers arrive, in Tankavaara Gold Village you can hear the eager barking of sled dogs as they drive tourists to the magnificent landscapes of Urho Kekkonen National Park. Tankavaara Gold Village is located right next to the national park, along good hiking trails suitable for snowshoeing and excursions in winter. On a winter night at Tankavaara, it is worth watching in the sky, as you can spot the northern lights  just by stepping right out of the door.
