Ski Resort Suomutunturi – Genuine Lapland Holiday Resort

Deep in the middle of the forests and wilderness of Finnish Lapland you’ll discover Suomutunturi, a peaceful luxury ski resort, situated on the Arctic Circle, at the foot of the ancient fell for which it’s named. Suomu fell is 410m high, and has been home to Suomu ski centre since 1965, one of the first in Finland.

Suomu Ski Resort has remained an authentic Lappish holiday resort, where the new luxury hotel has been developed with respect for the surrounding nature. Originally most popular with couples and small groups, Suomu has become a popular resort for families, as illustrated by the domestic reindeer that greet arrivals at the gate. What appeals to families is Suomu’s mix of easy children’s runs, where they can kept in sight from the hotel’s sun terrace, with a wide range of traditional Lappish activities such as husky-sled and reindeer sleigh rides.

Slopes

The wind-sheltered ski slopes of Suomutunturi are recognised as being among the best in Finland, with a choice of different slopes to cater for all skill levels, from the beginner’s green to the master’s black level. There is also a snow park for snowboarders, and of course the children’s slope in front of the hotel.

Suomu Ski Centre, designed for the whole family, has a total of 10 ski slopes, of which the longest is 1,700m long. Three slopes are FIS homologated and they can be used for slalom or giant slalom.

Accommodation – a hotel and chalets

Opened in December 2015, the stylish Hotel Suomutunturi offers luxury accommodation in a choice of their  70 m2 Suomu suites and their 35 m2 De Luxe rooms, all with breathtaking views of the fell and its slopes. All of the guestrooms are equipped with high-quality Finlayson beds with body mattress pads, a locker and wardrobe, and free internet access.

Suomu Ski Resort also provides accommodation in high-quality holiday home chalets, within walking distance of the resort’s services, in a Lapland wilderness setting. These Suomun Chalets can accommodate up to 8 guests, ideal for larger groups or families. The 80 m2 holiday home chalets have two bedrooms with double beds, with four more beds in the loft. Each chalet also has a sauna, two toilets, a washing machine and a dishwasher, a fully equipped kitchen, as well as a drying cabinet and fireplace.

Hotel Suomutunturi also provides a modern spa and sauna, renovated as recently as Christmas 2018. There is a luxury sauna section by the pond, ideal for meetings, social events, and parties. It is comprised of two saunas, kitchen, and a fireplace. Equipment available for meetings include a flipchart, video projector, and screen.

Winter Activities & Adventures

Hotel Suomutunturi is located in the heart of Suomu Lapland tourism region, right in the midst of wild arctic nature, uniquely beautiful at all times of the year. In winter cross-country skiers can enjoy a well-maintained network of tracks that traverse the fells and forests in a pristine environment. Snowshoe trekking is another popular way of experiencing the silence and peace of nature in Lapland, to enjoy nature’s own music – the wind in the trees, the calls of Siberian jays and wood grouse, among others.

There is also an excellent network of snowmobile routes, which are best explored on a guided safari with a local expert. There are plenty of other guided activities on offer: husky safaris, ice-fishing expeditions, aurora hunting, reindeer safaris, and much more.
