Kindergarten Museum

The purpose of the Kindergarten Museum is to collect, record and present the history of kindergarten work and kindergarten teacher education. The museum was founded in 1998 and is maintained by the Ebeneser Foundation. The museum exhibition includes material from the Ebeneser Kindergarten and other Helsinki municipal kindergartens dating from the 1800’s on.

The Kindergarten Museum exhibition illustrates the play-learning themes of kindergarten ideologist Friedrich Fröbel. The museum visitor will see original Fröbel blocks, an old house and store game as well as many implements for small household chores, such as a child’s washboard and wooden wringer. The 110 year journey of teacher education is presented in picture and word.
