Turku Health Care Museum

The Turku Health Care Museum contains six rooms full of health-care history, presenting medicine and nursing from the end of the 19th century and onward.

Many items associated with the history of Finnish health care are on display, for example instruments used in the treatment of cholera, polio and tuberculosis, as are lung specula.  In addition, electric shock treatment equipment from a mental hospital, a fully equipped operating room, pain pumps and autopsy equipment are on display.

Also on display are objects used in maternity and child health clinics and school health care from the 1940’s through the 1960’s, as well as uniforms used by health-care personnel.  Uniforms were no longer used after employers provided personnel with protective gear toward the end of the 1970’s.
