With almost 8,000 sports clubs in existence in Finland, and around 350,000 children and youths using their services annually, there are always sporting events for children to participate in or to simply watch. The Helsinki Cup, for example, is a football tournament where teams of boys and girls ranging in age from 8 to 17 compete for one week in July.
In winter there are ice skating, skiing, snowboarding and even ice-fishing competitions and events, with categories for children. The best place to find out about these is directly from the tourist information bureaus which you will find in almost every town.
