Although apartments rented to holiday makers aren't as common in Finland as in other European countries like Spain or Italy, there are still some fine vacation rentals to be found in the larger Finnish cities, especially Helsinki. Usually these apartment rentals are in buildings that have been especially converted, fewer are private rentals in purely residential buildings.
There are obvious advantages in choosing an apartment rental over a hotel, especially for families. The usual reason is cost, in most cases renting an apartment for a week or more works out cheaper than hotel rooms for a similar period. Of course, the larger the group visiting the better the savings.
Other advantages include the self-catering aspect - in an apartment rental you choose when and what you eat, which gives greater flexibility to how you choose to spend the rest of your day. Privacy is also enhanced in a vacation rental, as you have considerably more room at your disposal. Finally, most, if not all, modern apartment rentals come fully equipped with all the convenient appliances you'd expect in a home, including TV, internet access, refrigerators and washing machines.
