Jyppyrävaara Panoramic Site

Jyppyrävaara is approximately 400 metres above sea level, in the immediate vicinity of the village of Hetta. Jyppyrävaara used to be a place of worship. According to traditional information, the stone idol that used to be on the top of the hill in the nineteenth century, was pushed into the Ounasjärvi Lake.

From the grounds of Fell Lapland Nature Centre is a marked nature trail that leads to the top of the Jyppyrävaara hill. There are information boards located along the trail, which tell of the way Midsummer used to be celebrated, the stone idol and postal trail. You can continue the journey from the nature trail to the lit wood chip trial which takes you to Pahtajärvi or Näkkälä.

In the summer of 2005, a panoramic tepee was built on the top of the Jyppyrävaara hill, where you can stop to fry sausages on the open fire and admire the surrounding fell landscapes.
