Welcome to Sallatunturin Tuvat!

Salla – in the middle of nowhere. Here you can enjoy the extraordinary raw beauty of the Lapp wilderness that lies north of the Arctic Circle. Along with invigorating outdoor activities, good food and long relaxing saunas. The ingredients for a perfect holiday!

We want you to enjoy your time so much here at Sallatunturin Tuvat that the holiday memories will leave you with a smile on your face. The extensive experience of our family business and our wonderful staff will make your holiday unforgettable.

Relax in a cosy cottage

Our 66 cottages are situated conveniently near the Sallatunturi fell and all services are within walking distance. We have a whole range of cottages range from cosy one-roomers with a shower, to bigger apartments with 1 to 4 bedrooms and the luxury of your own sauna. The “Lapp suites” Pomotupa (147 m²) and Sihteeritupa (175 m²), can accommodate even bigger groups under one roof. All cottages and holiday apartments are fully equipped.

Enjoy Lapp delicacies

Lapp specialties and local cuisine are a central feature of the Kiela restaurant. Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international gastronomic society and culinary guild, awarded Kiela with their seal of excellence in 2008.

In our house pub, Papana Pupi (try to say that quickly without laughing!) you can enjoy a few drinks and talk about the day’s experiences in a relaxed atmosphere. Finnish bands seem to love the place and end up playing here quite often. Or perhaps you would rather improve your billiard skills in the poolroom?

Explore the wilderness – go on an arctic safari

Going on a snowmobile safari is a great way to explore the wilderness. Our safari guides will teach you the basics and then you’ll be able to drive yourself, in a group led by a guide. Arctic Circle Safaris offers a wide range of trips. The shortest ones last a couple of hours, the longest take several days. We also organise snowmobile safaris to Russia.

Our safaris usually start at Sallatunturi, but on request you can start anywhere you want, even at Kuusamo or Rovaniemi airport.

Hike and hear the silence

In the forests of Salla you’ll enjoy the slow pace of trekking, breathing in the fresh air and experiencing the magical silence. Karhunkierros trail (Finnish for Bear’s Ring), in Oulanka National Park in southern Salla and Kuusamo, is a popular hiking route. UKK hiking trail, named after former president Urho Kaleva Kekkonen, also runs through Salla.

The Tuntsa wilderness in the north of Salla is famous for its raw, unspoiled beauty. There are many other gems in the forests around Salla, such as the Salmijoki Gorge and the Giant’s Kettles in Aholanvaara.

We also rent mountain bikes, city bikes and e-bikes for those who require more speed.

Activities in Winter Wonderland

Salla Ski Resort was voted Finnish ski resort of the year in 2009. And no wonder, as the 15 slopes are kept in excellent condition and offer plenty of challenges for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Even some alpine teams practice in Salla.

Do you prefer cross-country? 147 kilometres of ski trails will take you right into the wild. 42 km of the tracks are illuminated.

Salla offers also other fun outdoor activities such as snowshoeing and riding a reindeer or dog sledge. Welcome to our Winter Wonderland!
